Sanibel
Island lies off the coast of Florida, near the city of Fort
Myers, between Tampa 125 miles north and Key West 140 miles
to the south. This island paradise consists of 16 miles
of beautiful sandy beaches with a mild winter and tropical
summer climate. Sanibel is joined to a smaller island, Captiva,
and is connected to the mainland via the three-mile Sanibel
causeway.
Sanibel Island formed when storms created
a sandbar about 6 miles off the Florida coast. Throughout
the years the island changed ownership from Spain to England
to pirates, eventually
developing into the popular vacation spot that it is today.
A tropical island wilderness with all the conveniences
of modern life. Only here can you wander a
deserted beach shelling the "Sanibel Stoop",
have a gourmet lunch, track down an alligator at
the pond and see an award winning play all in one
day!
Sanibel Island
was rated one of the top shelling beaches in the
world by National Geographic Traveler Magazine in
the July/August 2004 issue. Sand dollars,
scallops, whelks, fighting conches and other shells
are among the gems that wash ashore on this barrier
island.
In a typical US suburb
you can see about 200 stars in the night sky. On
Sanibel, you can see 3,000! Conditions are
ideal for star gazing here as much of the island,
including all beaches are restricted from development.
If you are looking for a place to kick back
and relax, we have a place for you.
As you would expect, the weather is great!
Winters are exceptional with average highs in the
70's. Summers are tropical, but gulf breezes keep
things comfortable. The sun shines nearly
everyday, all year round.
